A lightweight cartonboard box with a hang tab, for retail products that sell on a hook.
The hang-tab folding carton is the lightweight way to put a product on a peg. It is mostly made with paperboard carton — not corrugated — so its smooth cartonboard face takes crisp graphics, and its extended back panel folds forward over the top carrying a punch-out hang tab, letting the finished box hang cleanly off a retail hook. That combination makes it the primary-packaging choice for small consumer goods that sell by looking good on a rack: cosmetics, supplements, confectionery, stationery, phone accessories, and gift lines in beauty, pharmacy, and gift-shop aisles where the box itself is the shelf appeal. Underneath, the base is a full four-flap overlap — flaps lapping over each other so the bottom doubles on board and holds a bit more weight than a plain tuck, sealed by you with a dab of glue or tape as you pack. Because it's a printed carton, plan the artwork around the tab: keep logos and key text clear of where the hole punches, and leave a little quiet space around the slot so it doesn't cut through your design.
If your product is heavier, bulkier, or needs the ruggedness of fluted board for transit-and-display, reach for the corrugated hanging box (FEFCO 0240) instead — same peg-display idea, tougher material; and if you want the same strong overlap base without the hanging top, the overlap-bottom tuck box is a click away. One practical tip when you generate it: place the tab so its centre sits above the loaded box's balance point, or it hangs crooked on the peg, and keep at least 8–10mm of board between the hole and the top edge so the tab doesn't tear out under weight — both scale with your material and caliper, so set those accurately. Then set your length, width, and height, and PackMyMan lays out the hang tab, extended top, and overlap base cleanly for your board, exporting a production-ready dieline in SVG, DXF, or PDF.
